So this is the real story that happened to me today. Not a big deal, but combining all of these happening in one day in just a few hours, it's just a little weird.
- I was in a bathroom at the Adaptive Path birthday party (was so much fun!) and got a call from an unknown number to my cellphone. I got the call and the guy was talking to me in Japanese and I thought it's some Japanese guy visiting here, but he was actually calling to some girl Keiko that I don't know. So I just answered "No you're calling a wrong number", of couese in Japanese.
- We left the party and came into an Irish pub O'Brien and on the radio it was playing Dragon Ash, a Japanese hip-hop band that was hot like 5 years ago in Japan. I was like "OMG which channel is this? How could this happen?"
- I was looking at the log of my cellphone and the wrong number call that I received was made on 9:12pm. Hmm, 9/12 is my birthday.
- We left the pub, I came home and turned on my Mac to see some videocast shows. On diggnation Kevin Rose was talking about a Japanese tech blog site that I told him the other day at Six Apart holiday party.
It just sounds like some Japanese obsession now that I'm feeling I won't come back to Japan, which I talked to a couple of people today at Foo Bar at the office. Hmm.
If this is me in Haruki Murakami's story, I would probably get a hot shower, eat a sandwich, drink a glass of beer while being confused and say "whatever" (やれやれ).

Today I went to see my new dentist Kuniko Saeki who is a native Japanese. I'll recommend her if you look for a great dentist who's able to speak Japanese fluently (her English is not that great btw). I got a cleanup and also did an X-ray to check my teeth bones (some of them were destroyed but she said it'll be better) and besides that we ended up finding my wisdom teeth which I was supposed to extract 10 years ago but forgot to do.
It's interesting that it's called "wisdom teeth" in English while it's called 親知らず in Japanese which means "teeth your parents may not know" because they appear when you're apart from your parents. I guess wisdom teeth comes from the age when you get more wisdom than the other teeth?
Amazon.co.jp にて購入。月曜に注文して金曜にくるとは、Amazon も落ちぶれたのう。ふだんハードカバーは買わない主義だけど、伊坂幸太郎のはなんか面白そうだったのでつい。
最近夜な夜な2-3話ずつ見てる電脳コイル。すばらしい作品なのでDVDどれくらいするのかなぁと見てみたら2-3話で3000円だって。5.1ch は限定版のみでそっちは2話で6000円。
日本って今そんなに景気いいの？ 何ぼなんでも高いよ。しかも NHK-E はHD制作なのにDVDはスタンダードに 2ch 音声じゃなぁ。
Blu-ray/HDDVD のコンプリートで 8000円ぐらいなら、なんとか買ってもいいと思うけどなぁ。
So this Dennou Coil is probably the best anime series shown in this season. It's a great science fiction anime and I love it. It appears they started to release DVD edition but it's a standard DVD in 2ch audio and it's like 2 episodes in 3000 yen ($25). Darn expensive.
It's a shame they air the show in 1080i HD and release DVD in such a low quality and high prices. I'd love to support NHK and their production company for the great effort on this anime but I can't pay like $240 for the entire set. Bleh.
Anyways the show is pretty enjoyable and it's available on video sharing sites like Veoh, Youtube or if you want HD, you can probably get them via BitTorrent network with subtitles.
I felt like exactly the same thing like a while ago, maybe a couple of months, when I got like used to the life in the US. I think the same thing applies to Japanese as well. Saying "ていうか (= rather, actually)", "ちょっと (= a little bit)", "まぁその (= you know)" too much makes yourself sound silly.
